Regular light dusting. A soft cloth, a feather duster or a vacuum with a brush head on low suction, run over the fabric every few weeks, prevents the slow buildup that eventually needs aggressive cleaning. Dust both faces of the treatment when you can reach them.

Fabric-by-fabric cautions
- Roller and zebra fabrics: flat surfaces dust easily. For marks, start with the gentlest option and the fabric's own guidance before anything damp.
- Sheer fabrics: the lightest touch of all. Aggressive rubbing can distort the weave; dust gently and treat marks conservatively.
- Honeycomb cells: keep them dry. Dust along the pleats and let the cells keep their shape; do not crush the structure or force anything into the cells.
- Pleated fabrics: dust along the folds, not across them, so the creases stay crisp.
- Roman shades and curtain panels: these are furnishing fabrics, and fabrics differ. Check the specific guidance for your fabric before any wet or solvent cleaning.
What causes the damage
- Household sprays and solvent cleaners used directly on fabric.
- Soaking any fabric that was not made for it.
- Scrubbing a spot, which can lighten or distort that patch permanently.
- Crushing pleats or cells while cleaning around the window.
- Forcing a lift mechanism that has started to resist; resistance is a service call, not a strength test.
